False Appearance

When the puddle is motionless in water, it appears to be a normal puddle. A creature that hasn't seen it move must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check to realize it is alive.

Actions

3 actions

Pseudopod

Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.

Damage: 5 (1d6 + 2) Bludgeoning damage

The Puddle Slime extends a small, water-like pseudopod to strike a nearby creature.

Splash!Recharge 5–6

DC 12 Dexterity saving throw

Damage: 1d4 Bludgeoning damage

Recharge: Roll a d6 at the beginning of the Puddle Slime's turn when this ability is unavailable. It recharges on a roll of 5 or 6.

Hit: On a failed save, the target takes the listed damage and suffers the listed effects.

Successful Save: The target takes no damage and suffers no additional effects.

The Puddle Slime launches a concentrated burst of water at one creature within 15 feet. The target is pushed 5 feet directly away from the Puddle Slime. The next 5 feet of movement it uses before the end of its next turn costs 10 feet of movement instead.

Absorb Water1/Short Rest

Usage: Once per Short Rest

The Puddle Slime absorbs at least 1 liter of clean water, temporarily increasing its volume. The Puddle Slime gains 5 Temporary Hit Points. These Temporary Hit Points follow the normal D&D 5e rules and do not stack with other Temporary Hit Points. The ability requires access to sufficient clean water.

Combat Behavior

  1. The Puddle Slime acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner's turn.
  2. The owner can use a Bonus Action to command the Puddle Slime to take one of its listed actions.
  3. Without a command, the Puddle Slime takes the Dodge action, unless it is incapacitated.
  4. The Puddle Slime cannot use Multiattack.
  5. The Puddle Slime is intended as a utility/support companion rather than a full additional player character.

About Puddle Slime

The Puddle Slime is a small, amorphous ooze with a cheerful disposition and an almost endless curiosity about the world around it. Its translucent, water-like body allows it to blend naturally into shallow pools, streams, and other aquatic environments.

Despite its harmless appearance, the Puddle Slime possesses several unusual abilities. It can squeeze through remarkably narrow openings, detect nearby sources of water, and use its fluid body to interfere with hostile creatures.

Although not particularly powerful in direct combat, its adaptability and inquisitive behavior make it a valuable companion during exploration. A bonded Puddle Slime often develops a strong attachment to its chosen adventurer, responding to familiar voices, movement, and changes in its surroundings.
