Illrigger FAQ
What subclasses can an Illrigger choose?
The Revised Illrigger chooses a **Diabolic Contract** at 3rd level. The five Contracts are **Architect of Ruin, Hellspeaker, Painkiller, Sanguine Knight, and Shadowmaster**. Architect of Ruin adds spellcasting, Hellspeaker emphasises manipulation, Painkiller is the heavy battlefield enforcer, Sanguine Knight leans into blood and vitality, and Shadowmaster specialises in stealth and assassination.
The Illrigger subclass is called a Diabolic Contract. A Contract is chosen at 3rd level and grants further features at 7th, 11th, and 15th level. Each Contract is associated with an archdevil and also grants distinct Invoke Hell options.
Architect of Ruin
Architect of Ruin is the strongest spellcasting-oriented Contract.
It adds Charisma-based Illrigger spellcasting and reinforces manipulation, fear, and magical disruption.
Choose it when the character should feel like an infernal battle mage rather than a purely martial knight.
Hellspeaker
Hellspeaker focuses on deception, charm, social control, and turning creatures against one another.
It is the natural Contract for a manipulator, diplomat, infiltrator, or battlefield deceiver.
Painkiller
Painkiller is the direct infernal enforcer.
It emphasises durability, martial pressure, and dominating the immediate battlefield.
Choose it for a more conventional armored hell-knight identity.
Sanguine Knight
Sanguine Knight focuses on blood, life force, and aggressive vitality manipulation.
It naturally complements the class's existing Infernal Conduit and darker sustain mechanics.
Shadowmaster
Shadowmaster focuses on stealth, assassination, supernatural repositioning, and striking from advantageous positions.
It is the most assassin-like Contract.
Choosing a Contract
