Astral Elf FAQ
How do Astral Fire and Astral Trance work?
Astral Fire gives an Astral Elf one cantrip chosen from dancing lights, light, or sacred flame, using Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma chosen for that trait. Astral Trance lets the Elf complete a long rest in four hours of conscious meditation and, after finishing it, gain one skill proficiency plus one weapon or tool proficiency until the next long rest.
Astral Fire cantrip choice
Choose one of dancing lights, light or sacred flame when the trait is established.
Spellcasting ability choice
Choose Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma as the spellcasting ability for the Astral Fire cantrip. A build that selects sacred flame usually benefits from matching this choice to a strong mental ability.
The cantrip does not automatically become a class spell
Receiving a cantrip from the species does not add it to a Wizard, Cleric, Sorcerer or another class spell list for every feature interaction. Use the granting trait's rules.
Four-hour conscious trance
Astral Elf does not need sleep, magic cannot put it to sleep, and the published Astral Trance can complete a long rest in four hours of meditation while the character remains conscious.
Flexible skill
After the trance, choose a skill proficiency you do not already have. It lasts until the next long rest.
Flexible weapon or tool
Also choose one qualifying weapon or tool proficiency you do not already have. That proficiency likewise lasts until the next long rest.
Plan for the next adventuring day
The changing proficiencies can be used to prepare for an expected investigation, wilderness challenge, social task, tool requirement or weapon plan without permanently locking the choice.
