What is a Wizard in D&D?
A Wizard is an Intelligence-based prepared full spellcaster built around a spellbook and exceptionally broad arcane spell access. Wizards use a d6 Hit Die, gain Spellcasting and Arcane Recovery at 1st level, choose an Arcane Tradition at 2nd level, and eventually gain Spell Mastery and Signature Spells. Their strength comes from collecting spells and preparing the right ones for the expected problem.

How do you play a Wizard?
Play a Wizard by treating the spellbook as a toolkit and the prepared list as today's loadout. Keep Intelligence high, protect concentration and your low hit-point pool, collect useful ritual and utility spells, and prepare answers for the expected adventure. Use Arcane Recovery to extend spell-slot endurance, and avoid preparing several spells that all solve the same problem unless you intentionally want redundancy.

What ability scores are best for a Wizard?
Intelligence is normally the Wizard's highest ability score because it powers Wizard spellcasting and determines prepared-spell capacity in the 2014 rules. Constitution is usually the next priority for hit points and concentration, while Dexterity improves Armor Class and initiative because the base Wizard lacks armor proficiency. The 2014 Wizard multiclassing prerequisite is Intelligence 13.
