What Rage activates

Rage creates the Storm Aura. The chosen environment can then be activated with a bonus action, Shielding Storm protects allies through the aura, and Raging Storm adds the path's final control or retaliation effect.

What remains useful outside Rage

Storm Soul provides the path's persistent elemental resistance and environmental adaptation, so the subclass retains some identity even when Rage is not active.

The normal Rage restrictions still matter

Storm Aura exists only while raging, so the subclass asks the Barbarian to commit to Rage when its battlefield effects matter. The normal 2014 limits on spellcasting and concentration remain in force during that choice.

Why Rage duration matters

When Rage ends, the 10-foot Storm Aura and features that depend on it end as well. Because the aura also uses bonus actions while active, managing both Rage duration and bonus-action competition is central to the subclass.
