Phantom FAQ
What are the main Phantom features?
Phantom gives the Rogue a supernatural connection to the dead. Whispers of the Dead supplies flexible proficiency, Wails from the Grave spreads Sneak Attack damage to another creature, Soul Trinkets turn nearby deaths into defensive and utility resources, and later features add spectral movement and stronger death-themed offense.
3rd level — Whispers of the Dead
After finishing a short or long rest, gain one skill or tool proficiency of your choice as spirits lend you knowledge; the choice can change after another qualifying rest.
3rd level — Wails from the Grave
Immediately after dealing Sneak Attack damage, deal additional necrotic damage to another creature near the original target. Uses are limited by proficiency bonus and recover on a long rest.
9th level — Tokens of the Departed
When a creature dies nearby, you can use your reaction to create a Soul Trinket, up to a limit based on proficiency bonus. Trinkets provide defensive and information benefits and can fuel additional Wails from the Grave uses.
13th level — Ghost Walk
Enter a spectral state that grants flight, makes you harder to attack and allows movement through creatures and objects, with consequences if you end movement inside solid matter.
17th level — Death's Friend
Wails from the Grave becomes more damaging, and the subclass gains an additional way to ensure access to a Soul Trinket.
How the features work together
Phantom turns successful Sneak Attacks and nearby deaths into a resource loop. Wails from the Grave rewards landing the Rogue's core attack, Tokens of the Departed converts deaths into Soul Trinkets, and those trinkets can later support defense, information gathering, or additional Wails. Ghost Walk then adds an unusually strong movement and survival tool.
