Path of Genjutsu FAQ
How do you build and play a Path of Genjutsu Shinobi?
Prioritize Wisdom for Technique Save DC and Dexterity for the Shinobi chassis, choose Genjutsu techniques that solve different control problems, and protect concentration. The Path is strongest when it denies enemy actions, creates misses and changes positioning rather than trying to compete with a pure damage build.
Ability scores
Wisdom is especially important because several Path features require enemies to make Wisdom saves against your Technique Save DC. Dexterity remains vital for weapons, initiative and defense. Constitution improves hit points and concentration saves.
Choose Deception or Insight intentionally
If your party needs a face, Deception can reinforce infiltration and false identities. If you expect interrogation, investigation or Insightful play, Insight may provide more value.
Manage reactions
Distorted Perception competes with Fortune Dice and other reaction options. Decide whether altering an attack is more valuable than modifying another d20 roll that round.
Protect concentration
Many strong illusions depend on concentration. The base Shinobi later gains Unbroken Focus, so high-level Genjutsu naturally becomes more reliable, but positioning remains important.
Know when not to use charm-dependent control
Creatures immune to the charmed condition automatically succeed against Distorted Perception, and other Genjutsu may have their own restrictions. Keep non-Genjutsu or martial options available.
