Identity

The Mastermind is a social and tactical support Rogue that excels at disguise, languages, reading opponents and using the Help action from range. Its tactical identity comes from making allies better and manipulating social situations, while the Rogue's own Sneak Attack and mobility continue to matter every round.

How it fits the Rogue chassis

Mastermind begins at 3rd Rogue level and gains further archetype features at 9th, 13th, and 17th level. Mastermind gains archetype features at Rogue levels 3, 9, 13, and 17. Between those levels, the class continues improving the Rogue's own precision damage and reliability while Master of Tactics remains a recurring support tool.

Ability-score implications

Dexterity remains the Rogue's combat ability. Charisma is a natural secondary score for social Masterminds, while Wisdom supports Insight. The subclass itself does not replace Dexterity with Charisma for weapon attacks.

Combat and exploration role

Think about allies' turns as part of your own. Master of Tactics can create advantage for a heavy-hitting ally without giving up your action. Outside combat, use languages, disguises, forgery and Expertise to become an organiser, infiltrator or intelligence specialist.

Sneak Attack remains central

Mastermind does not create a special personal Sneak Attack trigger. Its combat strength is often indirect: the bonus-action Help improves an ally's attack while the Rogue still uses the action for a normal Sneak Attack weapon attack. This makes it a strong cooperative archetype.
