Life Domain FAQ
How do Life Domain spells work?
Life Domain Spells are added automatically at Cleric levels 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Once you gain one, it is always prepared, does not count against the number of Cleric spells you can prepare each day, and counts as a Cleric spell for you even if it would not normally appear on the Cleric spell list.
1st Cleric level
bless and cure wounds.
3rd Cleric level
lesser restoration and spiritual weapon.
5th Cleric level
beacon of hope and revivify.
7th Cleric level
death ward and guardian of faith.
9th Cleric level
mass cure wounds and raise dead.
Always prepared does not mean free to cast
A Domain Spell still normally consumes a spell slot when cast. 'Always prepared' means it is available without using one of the Cleric's daily preparation choices.
Domain Spells expand preparation freedom
Because these spells do not consume preparation capacity, the Life Cleric can use normal prepared-spell choices for utility, control, detection, offense or additional support.
Disciple of Life applies by effect, not by Domain label
If a spell of 1st level or higher restores hit points and otherwise meets Disciple of Life's requirement, the feature can improve that healing whether the spell came from the Domain list or the ordinary Cleric list.
